    Bagong Trip: Diorama making--
Galing noh?
Now I know... alam niyo na susunod diyan
All guitars are girls. I've had a preference for les Pauls ever since I got my Yamaha Studio Lord sl400s. This Yamaha guitar may not seem much but it's whats called a lawsuit guitar. One of the few models Gibson USA needed to file a lawsuit because of the almost precise copy made by the Japanese manufacturer. From weight to sustain especially tone. The Studio Lord is my favorite (don't tell the other one) My main live guitar as seen from the buckle marks on the back of which I am very proud of. I don't believe in guitars being treated as expensive decoration. My second les Paul is a Gibson Custom. I haven't had the chance to really stretch her legs yet because I'm currently having her parts upgraded and restored before I do so.
I was first touched inappropriately by Zappa when I was working on my thesis. I'd work non-stop through the night sustained by caffeine and nicotine while playing diff albums. When I decided to try one of my dad's stuff, I put in Baby Snakes. At first it remi nded me of a Vai record (later would I find out that Vai served as a transcriber then played for Zappa) Anyways I noticed that I had bee n listening to that album non-stop for 6 hrs. Ever since, I've been ruined by that mustachioed freak and started me on my quest to hunt down his albums. Like most people, Zappa got my attention through the novelty style. But once you get past that and check out his more obscure work, you begin to realize the complexity of his writing skills. For those wanting to get into Zappa, you could start with the Zappa plays Zappa concert collections- by son Dweezil. Thiese recordings are new-- so you wont be turned off by the old school recorded sound of the original zappa albums. Also Dweezil picks most of the Best known Zappa songs.

You can also start with The Son of Cheap Thrills-- a sort of best of compilation, or the You cant do that on Stage Anymore live series. I suggest starting with an album close to your preference. for those who like hard rock, go for the seventies-styled albums (apostrophe, ba by snakes, joe's garage, Bongo fury). Those into doo wop 50-60's: go for the early mothers of invention rec ords. Jazz: Hot rats, Make a little Jazz Noise etc... Ive tried to convert some of my friends- and the trick is to start with the more accessible stuff. Then you can move on to the more eclectic stuff- where Zappa ditches the guitar completely and takes the role of a composer-- usually late 80's till his death Zappa was light years ahead of his time. His songs can even hold their own in today's Progressive Rock movement (as evidenced when Zappa Plays Zappa took part in Mike Portnoy's Prog Fest concerts) Anyone here wants to try playing Zappa songs? lemme kno w. The few, the proud, the Zappateros hanep!
Latest work ng Asado king. The guitar was my brother Monchie's. A broken generic Genesis guitar. Initially was just going to do inkwork on it, but then got my hands on a drill so there you go. Thought I'd stay away from making the design to decorative and stick to a design a guitarist would actually use onstage without the fear of being punched in the scrots. Concept is dirty, bare bones, primeval-- may amoy. A call towards the original reasons for playing in a band. Rock is not an elitist, pseudo-intellectual trendy endeavor so shut up, turn off the delay pedal, and just fucken play yer guitar.--- Siopao Paredes March 2011
Move over all you pretentious, over indulgent drawingers. The master of the sublime is at this very moment working on his latest deo-piece. "Andami kasi nagtatapon ng basura diyan sa labas ng bahay namen. Kaasar.." quips the scantilly clad artist as he divulges some insights on his latest work. Maestro Siopao seems to be taking on the intricate and phosporate drama that goes on in a consumer society that easily discards as it eating objects of wanton beef. "Discarding you are talking about is my neighbor" interjects the matinee idol slash pintorer. Siopao seems to be talking about the endless cycle of up and down regarding the refuse of humanity. As well as our love/hate relationship with th is condition: "yan si 'carding, mabait yan. Nagpapahiram minsan ng walis yan" As of press time, Siopao has not divulged the title of his upcoming one man show. Though insiders have revealed that the artist had been thinking aloud some possible titles like: "Tangina dito pa kayo nagkalat" and "potah basura ba itong harap ng bahay ko? patayin ko kayo lahat, I swear talaga!" We join the whole Philippines in sweaty anticipation of this anticipating event.
A misfit walking along the fringes of both commercial and underground notoriety. Siopao graduated from the University of sto Tomas with a degree of Vulcanizing majoring in welding. It might be strange to imagine the smooth-jazzy light-funky sound of the "Manila Sound" as epitomized by Hotdog as the sound of Martial Law, But this nebulous era of original Pilipino music also spawned counter-cultural rock muscicians who sang with social consciousness, creating songs that today still stand for nationalism. Fifty Contemporary designers, many of whom never even saw the '70s but possibly grew up on its music via formerly jeprox parents, were tasked to revisualize record cover art from the rock legends for an exhibit during Manila Design Week. In a digitized culture that has pretty much done away with the need for album art, this project brought designers and audiences back to the craft of the sleeve, the impact of a full 12-inch square, and the sound that defined an emergent mind of state. The Piece "I have always been interested in Organic shapes which led me to the works of Alphonse Mucha and the other artists of the Art Nouveau Movement. "My idea for the Maria Cafra piece went along the lines of Art Nouveau. I also had the idea of incorporating late seventies/early eighties adult animation aesthetics. I vividly remember watching my father's collection of vhs tapes such as "Wizards, The Last Unicorn, The Hobbit" which I tend to relate to my vision of seventies design. All of these animated films had a psychedelic use of color and flowing organic forms. "I see the process of drawing repetitive patterns as a form of meditation. A sort of Mantra, wherein one needs to block out one's surroundings to be able to do precise work."

Paredes Pride at Hiwaga- Monchie's Birthday
 | March 14, 2009— After visiting Velasquez Park for the "Art in the Park" exhibit/market, met up with Monch and went out with the siblings. Monch and the girls introduced me to their current gaming interest: Left for Dead. Nice. Got to my parent's house and prepared for Monchie's birthday party. We'd made an appointment with the Paredes Tattoo Artist, Patrick Magalona to push some ink during the party. It's been two years since I've had some work done (tagal din) so I was looking forward to this. Hopefully I wont wait that long till my next one.
| | Had my inner forearm done. Pretty simple design, wala pang isang oras at kalahati. which suited me fine cause I had some drinking to do. My cousin Kevin had some work done next. Monch opted to reschedule his for April- medyo i refine pa ang design. By 2am I was exhausted, medyo marami rin akong nagawa that day kaya mga candid pictures sa akin ay nakamukha ko na ang Left for Dead. Disclaimer: I have yet to read the Group's constitution & by-laws, I understand there is a copy at the SOA office.(yep nagulat din ako) Asked some members if they've ever seen it...enigma daw. Will take a gander later. The SOMA week is over. All in all I would say everyone did good. From the Approj groups to the Bahay Bumbilya officers & members. My congratulations and thanks for your hard work and dedication. After the events of the SOMA week, a question suddenly popped in my head- What is the purpose of Bahay Bumbilya? (or bombilya?- naku di ko pa alam spelling) As coordinator for the group I have noticed that Bahay Bumbilya's purpose in the college has been vague at best. (Maybe it's just me being clueless as to the specifics of the group which I suddenly found on my lap.)Regulated to handling different school functions in line with the School of Multimedia Arts. This gives the impression to prospective members that joining this group is akin to being Student Assistants pooled together to serve whenever the needs arise. Yes, the group must be in the forefront of events concerning the department, but if this is the only reason for joining such a group, I don't think even I would join. I understand that membership is mandatory for all abma students. This may be a reason as well that the group has taken for granted it's legitimacy. For when a group automatically has members, the same group may overlook it's faults. Bahay Bumbilya must first have a major make over as to it's own identity and goals prior to finding it's place in the overall scheme of the College. What should this group offer it's members? What can it contribute to the Multimedia Arts community? I propose that we come up with a manifesto to first define who we are. I suggest that Bahay Bumbilya should be an avenue for the creative growth of it's members. It's primary goal should be the celebration of artistic expression, the exploration of the individual and the awakening of the artistic spirit. I would like to suggest that Bahay Bumbilya first be known as an "Art Collective" wherein people of similar interests come together to learn fromn each other and grow as artists. We may get lessons from different art groups in existence today and structure ourselves in the same manner. As Bahay Bumbilya is a group under the School of Multimeda Arts, this will mean that it's disciplines will be most varied: from painting, music, digital arts to performance, literature and the like it may seem a daunting task to consolidate these different vehicles of expression. but what do all these forms have in common? It is the creative and artistic spirit. the celebration of one's individual perspective of life. If we look at it this way, it would be easy to get people of different backgrounds congregate together. In this manner, Bahay Bumbilya's identity may be established as a venue for nurturing, sharing and opening the eyes of future multimedia practitioners. Aside from being active during college functions, the group must have it's own agenda. It must explore different experiences that can only be available to them by looking towards outside sources. Bahay Bumbilya as an Arts group (how does that sound?): to nurture the artistic growth of its members by providing activites which will broaden their perspectives on life. -Workshops/seminars--- The group will set different workshops on diverse artistic disciplines throughout the year. (two-three major outside activities, as many in school activities as possible)workshop with the masters, artist's village, cultural trips, team-building, leadership training -Be regular attendees of art forums and activies (ccp, ncca functions sining-taktakan etc)-- what is happening in the art world today -Regular small scale exhibits/ installations /art space- to challenge the members to be constantly creative. (every month? or every two months)--- visual arts/spoken word/music/performance-- anything goes--- this may even be evolved into a regular production - One major group output a year--- A short film/ animated short/ outreach/ indigenous culture/ -Alternative stress release venues- Mountaineering, rowing, retreats To current Bahay Bumbilya members: The above is my opinion, I am only a coordinator, YOU are the group. It will be up to you if you want to affect any changes in your organization. Again, I only very recently have been involved so my impressions are based on a newcomer who had no prior idea as to the group's function or objectives. It may very well be that the group does not cover the suggestions I mentioned. If that is the case, then maybe a new org from the ranks of our students may rise to the challenge I would like to call on the current/future officers and members, of Bahay bumbilya to step up. Alam ko kaya ninyo ito.
